The Future Was Already Here (Fremtiden var her allerede)

Permanent work for Skjoldungernes Land National Park in The Municipality of Lejre.

3D milled polystyrene, fiberglass, paint

2023

As the title suggests, the work deals with the relationship between present, past, and future—more specifically, with how the past can be made comprehensible, among other things, by introducing a different perspective on the future. Featuring both an Ice Age landscape and remnants of Viking settlements, I believe this is what Skjoldungernes Land, as a national park, is essentially about.

My proposal was therefore quite simple: a gigantic meteor has landed gently—an impossibility in itself. Perhaps this mysterious stone could become the origin of a new myth told by the locals, much like the tale of King Skjold. As an infant he was miraculously found on a deserted, incoming ship, placed on the Tingsten – the central stone of the ancient assembly where the community gathered to decide laws and settle disputes – and crowned king of Skjoldungerne.
